Baikonur 4 is a sample-based synthesizer built from the sound of the SOMA Lyra-8™, a celebrated analog drone instrument. Rather than model it, Baikonur 4 captures its character through multi-channel recording and lets you reshape it with modulation, filtering and effects.
What makes the instrument distinctive is how each sound was recorded: every source was captured through four separate “mic” channels, each with its own tone, which you blend to taste on the main page.
Main — The direct signal, run through analog EQ, analog saturation and transformers for weight and color.
Room — The signal sent through a Fender Princeton Reverb amplifier and then a Universal Audio OX amp top box with the “Room” control fully raised — the source of the channel’s name.
Cab L / Cab R — Two different speaker-cabinet impulse responses, each captured in a different room and without the amplifier used on the Room channel — adding width and a sense of space.
A stereo spring reverb (the Spring channel) completes the palette. Blended together, these channels give Baikonur 4 its rich, dimensional tone.
Over 100 presets
Baikonur 4 ships with more than 100 presets, organized into four banks: ASTRA, DRONES, MODULAR, and THE ABYSS. A fifth bank, PERCUSSION, is included as a bonus — a set of straightforward drum machine sounds, not sourced from the Lyra-8, so you can sketch a rhythmic part without leaving the instrument. Presets are color-coded on the on-screen keyboard by bank, so you can see at a glance which region of the library you're in.
Shaping the sound
Every preset is a starting point, not a fixed patch. Filtering, modulation, and a full effects chain, including a ring-modulated reverb that pushes tones into genuinely strange territory, let you rebuild a sound from the ground up. An arpeggiator adds rhythmic movement, and pitch bend and mod wheel are mapped and MIDI-learnable for expressive control from any controller.
No Kontakt required
Baikonur 4 is a standalone plugin in VST3 and AU formats for macOS and Windows. No sampler host and no additional purchase is needed. The Lyra-8 library is roughly 5 GB of 24-bit multi-channel recordings from a single instrument.

You download a 6 GB installer, which unpacks the sample library to 5.19 GB. Both sit on your drive during setup. Once Baikonur 4 loads and plays, the installer has done its job and you can delete it.
